The Pioneer Collegiate Baseball League is excited to announce the creation of the Pioneer League Podcast! The show will be a weekly presentation, talking about the different events taking place in the Pioneer Collegiate Baseball League this summer!
On the very first episode, we talk to the head coach of the Albert Lea Lakers, Sam Schumacher. We talk to him about his background in baseball and what he expects this summer in Albert Lea.

The Albert Lea Lakers are proud to announce the acquisition of Blake Bagenstos
Bagenstos earned CIC All Conference Western Division First Team Utility his senior year and CIC All Conference Western Division Honorable Mention his junior year at Dowling Catholic High School in West Des Moines, Iowa.
He tossed over 155 innings during his high school career and posted a 1.89 ERA with 154 strikeouts and an opponent batting average of .159. At the plate, he hit .414 with 53 RBIs, 59 runs scored and walked 42 times recording an on base percentage of .480 and a slugging percentage of .575.
Bagenstos has been a Presidential Honor Roll member all four years at Dowling, a member of the National Honor Society and the junior recipient of the John B. Hays Scholarship. He was a four sport athlete also participating in track, soccer and a two-time state champion in football.
Bagenstos is a Pre-Med major enrolled in his freshman year at Truman State University in Kirksville, Missouri and is a member of the Bulldog baseball program.

The Albert Lea Lakers are proud to announce the signing of Jamell Newson.
Newson, an outfielder, is currently in his junior season at Delta State University. Newson spent his first two collegiate seasons at Northwest Mississippi Community College where he started 45 games in centerfield, hitting .278 with eight doubles, three triples and one home run. He collected 22 RBIs and also scored 39 runs. His speed not only makes him a great defensive player but a threat on the base paths as well, Newson swiped 32 bases in his junior college career.
The young man from Senatobia, Mississippi made an impact right away at NMCC starting 47 of 48 games as a freshman. Although he hit just .259, he led his team with 39 walks and finished with astounding .416 on-base percentage.
Newson was apart of a powerhouse Magnolia Heights program in high school, winning three straight MAIS AAA Division II State Championships from 2012-2014. The Chiefs were the third team in the state of Mississippi to go undefeated, finishing 37-0 and ranked No. 8 in the country in the MaXPreps Xcellent 50 National Baseball Rankings in 2013.
His senior year was one to remember as he was named the MAIS MVP and a member of the Clarion Ledger’s All-State Second-Team. He hit a remarkable .472 with six doubles, six triples and a pair of long balls. Newson drove in 28 runs and also raced away with 35 stolen bases.
Jamell wasn’t too shabby as a junior either, hitting .303 with nine doubles, three triples and a home run. He chipped in 15 RBIs and crossed the plate 27 times. He stole 28 bases and reached base almost every other at bat, posting a .490 on-base percentage.
The Lakes are excited to welcome Jamell to the city of Albert Lea for the upcoming 2017 season!

The Albert Lea Lakers are proud to announce the signing of Hunter Waning.
Waning, a native of St. Joseph, Michigan, is a redshirt freshman at the University of Indianapolis. Waning picked up his first collegiate hit on March 3, 2017 in a win against Oakland City and is currently batting .200 this season for the Greyhounds. Out of St. Joseph’s High School, the second baseman will be joining the Lakers this summer in Albert Lea.

The Albert Lea Lakers are proud to announce the signing of Evan Wick.
Wick, a catcher from East Troy, Wisconsin, will be part of the battery for the 2017 Lakers. He currently attends Viterbo University in La Crosse, Wisconsin. He is looking to major in sport management.
In high school, he started all four years behind the dish at East Troy and even took home defensive player of the year honors as a freshman. He won a conference Gold Glove as a junior and senior. He was named Honorable Mention All-Conference as a junior and was named Second Team All-Conference as a senior while also participating on the school’s’ football team for one season.
In his freshman year with the V-Hawks, Wick had a hit, drove in a run and even scored himself in his short time on the field. He closed out his freshman campaign with a .240 on base percentage.
